Beast from the East defeats season opener
The 750MC season opener at Donington Park, began in bitterly cold conditions, the sun came out for the start of qualifying, in tricky on track conditions. The sun was short lived only staying out for a few minutes at a time, this was followed by short, sharp snow showers....
This trend continued throughout the morning, the drivers still eager to get out on track, to brave the conditions. Just as the first race of 2018 was going to take place, the 'Beast from the East' really took hold. With the MR2 drivers waiting patiently in the assembly area for over an hour, the weather never seemed to improve. In the afternoon the decision was taken to cancel the race weekend. This was undoubtedly a hard decision to make, it turned out to be the right decision, as the circuit was covered in snow by the next morning.
Ultimately safety has to be the priority, with that in mind we turn our thoughts to the Marshals that stood out there in all the weather so the event could take place.
Next up for the 750mc see the Locost, Formula Vee and BMW Car Club racing at Castle Combe on Easter Monday.
