We put 10 questions to Locost driver Greg Smith, about his racing career and racing in the Locost Championship.
1. How did you get into racing?
I originally started racing in Karts back in the early 90s. Unfortunately money dictated the fact that I couldn’t continue this for too long. I’ve always been keen to get back behind the wheel and eventually thought I could try Locost.
2. What are your goals for 2019?
My goal last year was to get a top 10 championship finish, but with a problem with my lower back I had to sit out most of the year after my 1st win. This year a top 5 championship position is on the cards, but aiming higher!
3. Where is your favourite track?
My 1st ever time on a full circuit was Brands Hatch so I love returning there and would love to get some silverware this year.
4. What made you choose the Locost championship?
Budget was the 1st reason, but it’s a great championship and having raced for a few years everyone in the paddock brings a smile even on a bad day.
5. Sum up racing in 5 words
Eat, Sleep, Race, Repeat. (Sorry that’s 4)
6. Tell us a random fact about yourself.
Random fact: I’ve been fortunate enough to get married in St. Paul’s Cathedral due to my Dad being awarded the British Empire Medal for bravery in the police.
7. Do you have any pre race superstitions?
For some reason, my left boot goes on before my right and left glove before right too. Maybe because I’m left handed and it doesn’t feel right if the order is the other way round.
8. If you could pick a team mate who would it be and why?
I think it would have to be Mark Burton at our level as we have been mates for a while and both respect each other as mates and drivers, unless Jenson Button was free!
9. Do you prefer racing in the dry or wet?
As my 1st race win was in the wet and it’s a leveller across the grid it would have to be the wet.
10. Which of the other formulae would you like to try?
The bike sports and Radicals would be amazing to try.
