Jay Daniels

Jay Daniels Clio 182 driver, competing in his second season of racing the Clio, we put 10 questions to him..

1) How did you get into racing?

It all started when I was 8, we have a karting track, Ellough Park just 5miles up the road I asked mum if I could go and have drive, she phoned and booked me on but then they asked how tall I was, I wasn't tall enough!! I was gutted so mum took my horse riding instead!! Then when I was 12 I asked about it again but first I got measured and I was tall enough and I was hooked, the racing bug took hold!! I first started karting doing arrive and drive at Ellough and then got my own cadet kart and worked my way through the different classes and then in 2016 did my ARDS test and had my first arrive and drive in the Fiesta ST Championship but after only being able to do 3 race meetings in 2 years we decided the only way forward was to get my own car so then spent the next year looking at different championships and came across the Clios, we bought the car in February and had my debut race in the April and completed my first full season last year in the Clio 182.

2) What are your goals for 2019?

To build and improve on last year, be more consistant and looking to progress onto the podium.

3)  Where is your favourite track?

I love Cadwell Park as it's fun to drive but also Pembrey as that was the turning point for me last season, I broke into the top 10 and was awarded Driver of the Weekend.

4)  What made you choose the Clio 182 championship?

I had looked at various championships but chose the Clio 182 as it is has large grids, the cars are the same and its good close competitive racing.

5) Sum up racing in 5 words

Fun, competitive, makes me happy!

6)Tell us a random fact about yourself.

I would race 24/7 if I could!!

7) Do you have any pre race superstitions?

I don't have any but my brother Scott always makes sure he gives me a hug and a handshake before I go out.

8) If you could pick a team mate who would it be and why?

It would be great to partner Max Coates, he is an amazing driver and gives it 100% and leaves everything on the track and he is such a gent off the track too.

9) Do you prefer racing in the dry or wet?

I prefer racing in the dry but I'm getting better in the wet.

10)  Which of the other formulae would you like to try?

I wouldn't mind racing in the Classic Stock Hatch in the 750MC but obviously open to racing in most tin tops series, it's good to gain experience in other championships.

We don't have any racing history in the family I am the first to do anything like this. We run ourselves and have had to learn so much over the last year and are still learning all the time.

We are raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital this year.

We couldn't do it without the help of our sponsors, so a big thank you goes out to:
