This month we have a chat to Tom Hall, about his season in the Clio 182 Championship and how he got into racing in the first place.
How did you get into racing ?
At the age of 15 I was given the opportunity to help a local race team "Barry Pomfret Motorsport" who competed in the 750 motor club in the formula ford 1800 zetec series. Being a hard-up teenager I promised myself that one day I would have a race team of my own and race myself. Fast forward 16 years and now at the age 30 I am living my dream and at the same time spending quality time especially with my dad, my family and friends.
What are your goals for 2019 ?
With such a large grid in the Clio championship a top 10 finish in my first year would be fantastic achievement Finishing the season strong would be a great result for me and the Team Hall Racing team. Every race weekend I have beaten my previous result and there are still 3 rounds left to go so no excuses. I want to keep learning my craft and push harder next year.
Where is your favourite track ?
I have only raced at 5 tracks competitively, Donnington is my favourite and incidentally my 1st ever race. We are there again in September and looking forward to going back.
What made you choose the 182 Clio’s ?
In my opinion you are not going to find a championship where the racing is so close and is value of money. As it is a set locked championship it doesn’t matter how deep your pockets are! and in other championships I don’t like the fact of running in classes and not winning the race overall.

Tell us a random fact about yourself
I hate baked beans!
Do you have any pre race superstitions ?
I am not superstitious at all, but my routine ahead of the actual race is to listen to music on my own whilst getting ready. Once on the grid, focus, visor down waiting for the lights to go out.
Team mate who & why ?
Soppy as it sounds but my team mate is my dad "Andrew Hall" we go racing together as we both enjoy it and it's all about making memories as life is far too short. Father and son team is amazing, BUT 🤣 my dad suffers with a bad back and if he is not able to come with me, it would be my good friend Simon Freeman who races in the Gen 3 Michelin Clio Cup Series. (Good luck in your season mate. A Champion in the making) #simonfreemanracing #SFR
Which other formula would you like to try ?
Something with a sequential gearbox and loads of power. #FFH#FAST
Wet or Dry ?
Definitely the dry for me, my first experience of racing in the wet was the opening round of 2019 at Brands Hatch. I spun at Paddock Hill with 4 other cars and then found myself going backwards down the hill with cars coming towards me!
I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone that has helped and supported us along the way.
A special thank you to my family who are always there supporting and cheering me on, my 2 beautiful daughters Lilly and Laycie-Mae who made me a big "Go Daddy - Team Hall Racing" banner, make sure you look out for it at Silverstone.
One day girls you will be on the podium with me when I win.
