Combe 'Springs' into action this Easter

This easter weekend sees the Castle Combe track spring into life for its first race meeting of the year. Along with Combes regular series there are also guest appearances from a few 750 Motor Club formulae.

The Locost, Formula Vee and the BMW car club which will be featuring at a few 750 Motor club events this year, get their respective seasons underway.

The Locost will hope to have big healthy grids continuing on from last year. SRB racing are fielding a team of Locost this year, with one of their drivers Oliver Batten having already shaking down his SRB Locost at Combe earlier in the week. Hopefully the weather will hold for the meeting and no ‘beasts from the east’ will affect running this time round compared to Donington! Tim Penstone - Smith will be looking to add to his podium finish at Silverstone last year in Scappy Jack who is now looking back to his best thanks to the winter preparations. Ben Powney will hope to mount a championship challenge once again after taking the 2017 championship fight down to the last rounds, before being eventually beaten by Ian ‘Slippy’ Allee.

Formula Vee will see the top two championship finishes last year not competing for the 2018 season. James Harridge will hope for more consistent finishes up the sharp end of the grid this year to mount a challenge for the title. James is a very quick driver especially so in the wet, although he won in some style last year at the 50th Anniversary at Cadwell Park. Class B champion Jamie Harrison has moved teams this year from the Jordan Racing team to Bears motorsport were he will be looking to retain the title he deservedly won last year. Phil Waterhouse has been documenting his winter preparations and the Vee has taken on a new colour scheme and name as its now know as the ‘Filari’ Phil will be looking for strong results this season to build on last season.

The BMW Car club will see its first races take place in the newly formed series. The multiple class format will hopefully bring in big grids across the year. At Combe the BMW car club will have a display area and also a grid walk before the race takes place. The idea will be to bring great racing at a low cost. The series are working hard to ensure the entry fees, tyres etc are at an affordable cost to competitors. This week as seen a number of drivers try out their cars at Combe on test days, also many have been on the dyno’s checking the power of their car.

Other formulae to race at Combe that weekend are the:

Castle Combe Saloons

Castle Combe Sport and GT championship

Castle Combe Formula Ford Championship

Castle Combe Hot Hatch Championship
